James A. Hurst is a television writer and showrunner whose produced work spans major international networks including Netflix, Hulu, UKTV, BBC America, Fox and CBS. He is also the creator of the Screenright YouTube channel, where he teaches the craft of screenwriting through professional practice, helping writers build scripts that work on the page.

Over the course of his career, James has written over 50 produced episodes of television for major series including the Emmy-nominated Hardy Boys, the Peabody Award-winning Degrassi: The Next Generation, Wynonna Earp, Being Erica, Frankie Drake and Flashpoint.

A Peabody Award winner and CSA Showrunner of the Year nominee, he is also a two-time Gemini nominee and a two-time Canadian Screenwriting Award winner.
